What is ASR (Answer Seizure Ratio)?

ASR (answer seizure ratio) is the percentage of call attempts on a route that are answered, used in wholesale voice as the headline measure of whether a route actually connects calls.

It is calculated as answered calls divided by total call attempts. A route carrying 1,000 attempts with 320 answered has an ASR of 32%.

What counts as a good ASR depends entirely on the traffic. Retail traffic to a well-provisioned destination sits far higher than cold outbound dialling, where most attempts legitimately go unanswered. Comparing ASR across different traffic types tells you nothing.

ASR is also the metric most distorted by false answer supervision, where a route reports a call as answered when it was not, inflating the figure and billing for connection time that never carried a conversation. A suspiciously high ASR on a cheap route is a reason to look harder, not to buy.
